That will certainly bring down the cost of US homes.

I'm of the mind that we should either ban export of lumber to the US for three months so they can get a taste of the shortages and high prices they seem to prefer.

Barring that, we could tack on an export duty on all lumber going to the US, so it is in line with US lumber prices and keep those dollars in Canada. Then the feds could invest in jobs programs, infrastructure or something else to the betterment of Canada, instead of just enriching the US Treasury Department.

Whatever the solution is, we need to stop maintaining the status quo because this issue rears its ugly head every five or six years.

Considering the price of lumber right now, we shouldn't export it at all until domestic prices get back to something reasonable.

I mean, $9 for a $2 stud? Come on.

That reminds me of the jokes last year about people retiring after they sold the extra 12 pack of Charmin they found in their basement.

Heard they have $26.95 clubhouse sandwiches in the USA now.
Used to be $6.95 but the high lumber prices and duties add $20 for the 2 toothpickes that hold it together.

I've never heard it called a "clubhouse sandwich" before, I've always called it a club.

Is this a western thing? :?
