And how long will this thought last. Is it even possible to fix the military at this point. It’s not like the past where minimal training was needed! Not too mention the lack of equipment or crap that Ottawa pretends is good enough! FFS none of this is new but everyone bought into the belief that there would be no more big wars. That everyone had learned not to try it again. The fall of the USSR cemented this idea allowing people to say we don’t need defence spending the world is a kinder gentler place. Conflicts happen in other places we wouldn’t do that again we’ve learned better… blah blah blah! Anyone who suggested otherwise was a war monger of a bygone era!

Lead time for any equipment is long and growing longer due to all sorts of variables. Our military has not had equipment or support for years! Hell my husband’s unit went on a UN tour in threadbare combats!! It’s doubtful that any of this will last though we might get some equipment out of it. As long as the contract is iron and there’s no prevision to cancel!

The proof is in the pudding, and none of his predecessors came close to meeting our defence needs since the mid-80s.

I guess we'll find out on Thursday how serious the current government is about defence - my guess is we won't see a significant increase in spending. I'll be surprised if we they spend an additional $4 billion next year.

The family & colleagues of the Canadian sailor who died when a fire erupted on that shitty second-hand British sub, the ones we basically ended up paying full price for due to the ridiculous amount of repair & refurbishment work put into them to make them even moderately sea-worthy, probably thoroughly agree with the former PM who bought them at a no-returns sale & crowed about what a great deal it was for us.
