A technical point: when an employee is laid off he gets a record from his employer to take to the EI office showing his weeks worked and his earnings. Who will verify that information for the self-employed person?

That being said, it should do the trick - keep the NDP on board.

I'm guessing the working period will depend on the ammount of money and the duration the self employed make payments. When we're working, money is deducted and sent to the gov. so I guess that while their sendng money, they'll be classed as working.

Gee. This is exactly the socialist stuff you cons usually complain about. Good to know that regardless of who Canada elects they will get a socialist government.

So? This is exactly the type of thing you cons claim to hate. You hate the very idea of the government providing job benefits using tax payer money.

Thats socialism comrade

That will of course include both the employer's and employee's contributions, far more than employees pay. Of course there will no check on his actual earnings or whether or not he worked at all.

The NDP have been long time supporters of this. This has more to do with them than the Tories.

But it should be optional.
