She doesn't fit into any of those groups - race etc. She's involved in a family dispute in a country with barbaric customs.

Loosely interpreted, that UN convention can apply to just about anybody. We have to have limits. If pakistan chooses to make adultery an offense, the people of pakistan have to live with that - we did when it was an offense here. As for fear of family retribution, like I say, we can't take all the people who live in fear of that.

She got a fair hearing from our system. It has determined she's not eligible for refugee status, I'm good with that.

Of course we're just supposed to take her word that she'll be killed if she's returned.

It's quite believable that her in-laws would come after her. We can't take in everybody that runs afoul of local customs tho. We're swamped as it is. In Pstan adultery is a crime - don't do the crime if you don't want to have trouble.
