I'm sure there will be an appeal on some minor legal detail but the guilty verdicts area good thing. The crime was unmistakable and if there had been an acquittal on all charges, then the riots would have been entirely justified.

Trying to organize my calendar. Are we doing unity and healing now or rioting and looting?

Guilty

Of course there will be appeals. I'm interested in whether the plan to put cities to torch goes ahead or not.

I think it will all boil down to the sentencing.

If he gets a slap on the wrist, expect anarchy. If he gets the same punishment a civilian would for these convictions, I think most people will be peaceful.

Even some of the dopes on FOX are saying that they agree with the verdict, probably simply because even they couldn't spin that footage into an excuse. Kind of difficult too when ten Minneapolis police officers testified during the trial and each & every single one of them said there was no excuse for Chauvin's response.

Hopefully the sentencing doesn't turn into a botch. Chauvin should do ten to fifteen minimum for this, as per what seems to be the average sentence for second degree murder in the US in most cases. Minnesota has penalties up to 40 years imprisonment for it.

Thanos Thanos:
I'm sure there'll be some feral urban stupidity by those who are determined to be assholes no matter what the verdict was. I'm somewhat positive that it won't be anywhere near as bad as what happened last year. Or during the LA riots back in 1992.

I can't see appeals working, though anything is possible. Not with that kind of video evidence that everyone saw. There's no he-said she-said scenario here. Chauvin wildly over-reacted to a petty crime and killed a man. It doesn't get much more stark than that.

Didn't Chauvin also have a list of prior complaints against him as long as his arm even before he ever met Floyd?

As for the people determined to be assholes, here's an interesting LA Times article about the conflicts between anarchists (who are often white) and the black community leaders and activists who call them out for harming their efforts and endangering the real gains they've made in recent years.

Reading articles like this, I can't help but wonder how many of the violent black bloc types are really just narcissistic white people who hijack the goals and frustrations of POCs for their own vicious agendas.

No, he won't. The Video is pretty conclusive. He murdered George Floyd. Kneeling on someones neck is not standard use of force.

As great as the verdict is, this doesn't change anything. The fact that the world had to sit and actually wonder if this man would be convicted or not says volumes. This is a man who murdered someone with their bare hands in the street surrounded by cameras and other officers trying to get him to stop with basically everyone up and down the chain of command saying what he did was wrong with several medical personnel saying this is what killed him.

And we still had to wonder if he would be convicted. This conviction changes nothing.
