Sure Layton will lie. I want to know what he is going to do about the deficit don't you just so we can criticize it likewise.

He's going to do nothing because he'll never be in a position to do anything about it

Actually I find it very likely Layton will be in a position to support or defeat the next government. Isn't that what you want or do you just support the NDP as a protest vote against the ongoing Lib-Con back and forth?

Yes Derby you are right I am biased against the Libs, being from Alberta, but it doesnt mean I think they are completely useless. It also makes it easy to attack them because they are making some pretty bold statements or are they just waiting to drop the writ before they layout their plans?

I admire your sentiment but I think basing the entire economy around hockey just won't work. Now if Don would speak out in support of the CFL then .......

The problem is that Harper has been saying this for months now that he won't need to raise taxes to erase the deficit and it seems that you are exceedingly harsher on Iggy for what Harper has been touting all along.

I've already seen the bulk of cons dismiss it when Harper backtracks on his promises or down right mitigate them (income trusts, floor crossers, senate appointments, deficits) so why should any Liberal hold their guys to a higher standard?

I don't believe Iggy can deliver anymore then Harper could deliver but I understand completely why he is saying he would. He was jumped on for simply making the very reasonable statement that he wouldn't rule out a tax increase.

We all get the governments we deserve and if the electorate will simply not vote in a politician who is willing to say we might need a tax hike or spending cut.

Did you happen to catch the reason Iggy said it? Quebec demanded a clarification over provincial transfers because they were worried about their money. QC pandering was another promise Harper went back on.

With projections saying Canada will eliminate the deficit in 5 years, Iggy could follow the same pattern and stay true to his promise without cutting anything.

No increase in taxes, no cut to transfer payments, but the deficit will get payed down.

Can anyone explain how this is possible?

I can think of thing they will hit right off the bat, the military. That's all ways been a popular one for the Liberals.

Dino, I dont think they will do that this time, when Chretien was elected in '93 we were just coming out of the cold war and it was easy to make those cuts because the world was at peace (/sarcasm), even though the cuts wont be as deep this time they will hurt especially once we are done the Liberals war in Afghanistan.

No new taxes, no cuts in transfer payments.

Just a big fat increase in the GST! probably to 15%.

Why aren't you concerned what Harper is going to do?
Why aren't you concerned what Iggy's going to do?

You don't have to be concerned, he did nothing before, why expect anything different.. Remember... oh there is no recession coming. oh so you lost your job, house, car and your self esteem, well its worse in the US. Oh your mother has cancer? how sexy.. oh don't worry about those top secret files, they are in the hands of a biker gang. And oh the big one.. the stimulus package money will be released as soon as we figure out which ridings are tory ridings then maybe just maybe you will get the cash flowing. And the home improvement tax con.. works if you have a house or a job or your house needs renovation, otherwise go fuck yourself.. vote tory.. NEVER!
Almost forgot the patronage fiasco.. remember .. We support an elected senate and vow to overhual the system. Ya right. Then he proceeded to fill the senate with appointed assholes who did what he wanted and printed what he wanted and went of Sunday morning TV and sang his praises. He has gone back on so many election promises he makes the movie Liar Liar look like a book about the gospel of Jesus Christ.. What a f---n tool.

I am not angry.. just fed up with this idiot. There are many other torys who would make a better leader. He has strayed so far from the Conservative ideology that it makes one puke.. Angry? Me? not at all.

That's ok Kenmore. Mcguinty has made sure that home owners in Ontario will have that tax credit nullified by fully taxing all home renos starting in 2010.
