168K is about $500 per day average. That doesn't sound like much. At $10 per person, thats only 50 people out of thousands that get a drink on any given day.

The military spend A LOT on alcohol, for mess functions excreta, do you suggest they stop?
Absolutely. Drink on your own dime not the taxpayers.

Here's a thought, instead of wasting tax dollars on alcohol for mess functions, how's about we put that money into fixing up housing accomodations on the bases.

I understand there's an entire street at CFB Shilo being torn up because the housing's in terrible need of repair. Last I heard only one unit was still occupied.

And CFB Moose Jaw's housing's not exactly state of the art now is it hmmm... ;)

It's is like that at all bases, but that is because the housing is not run by the military. That responsibility is given to civilians, also I know of many other bases that have excellent housing and can still run mess functions. There are lots of places you can draw money from if you want to play that game though. How about we take away military health coverage for entire families, and give it only to the member. Or we could close down the FRC (family resource center), I mean really I have no kids why should my money go for members who do? Can you see how silly your argument is now? It's not a lot of money, and it so for something that is good and improves working conditions, happy workers means more productive work.

Ask any soldier if they want new basketballs or rum rations on the next Ex.

You could always join the forces and see what I am talking about instead of making a snap decision on how the military should run its festivities.

The military is one area I don't have an issue with. These people put the ultimate pricetag on the line when asked. They really don't ask for a whole lot in return. You think a bunch of snivel servants is going to die for you??? If you could see me right now, you'd notice I'm not holding my breath.
I don't either but let's put the money to good use.

Better facilities, living accomodations, recreational facilities for sports on base, pay, benefits etc...

Rather than helping to fund another piss up.

Every penny counts.

And while we're at it, fuck soldier morale.

Let them go home, even more bitter and fucked up and start beating their wives and kids and then chew on a gun.

But hey, it'll be all good! Cause those kids without a daddy can play at the new skate park down the street that the cut funding went to.

Every penny counts!

A business owner is entitled to do as they please. A civil service employee who is paid as a result of taxes paid should not have that freedom.

A civil employee should have the tools to do their job the best they can.

Thay should not have dickweeds and idiots who have no clue what their job involves telling them how to conduct the business they were hired for.

Thanks for the objectivity Donny. I won't say your no friend of the Conservatives but we almost never agree on things.

itsanalias: Every election we get a host of trolls on all sides of the spectrum. They show up with no introductions, spew a bunch of one sided politics, never fill out their profile and then their gone right after the election. We have them on all sides and it's just a pain in the ass.

Anybody that drinks alcohol while they're on-the-clock should be fired. PERIOD. Anyone that uses my tax dollars to buy themselves alcohol should be fired. PERIOD. Anyone that thinks they can legitimatize either of the immutable, universal truths stated above can step right up for a kick in the cock.

Again YOUR tax dollars buy the booze used at mess dinners. I will say that any time the CF does have a function with free alcohol those drinking are not on duty.

I'll grant the military a proviso to my universal truths. Actually, no, I won't. They ought to pay for their booze too.

No, no, no...don't get me wrong. I think our service men and women should get HEFTY raises. I'd say double, at least. But the booze they drink ought come out of their own wallets, on principle.

No wine to toast the flag or queen?
Get real Lemmy. I don't like it either but I don't expect the GG to hold dinners at Timmies either.

The solution is simple: get rid of the GG. If we cut all the waste in our government, we'd have the money for us all to get free government booze.

"$168,000 on Booze"

Sounds like the month I spent in Fort McMurry.
