Just how are they being punished?
If they have a handgun, they can still keep it. Were law abiding car owners punished because they can't buy a new DeSoto?

Like ARs, if you can't buy, sell, trade or otherwise make use of the dollars you have in these assets, the value of a handgun has dropped to zero dollars. All the training, all the security checks, all the compliance with law, and your assets are devalued and being confiscated for possibly cents on the dollar.

And to top it off, the RCMP have never released the statistics they keep on handgun or long gun use in crimes, so there is effectively no way to tell if a handgun ban is effective.

So law abiding people are punished, and people intent on crime are only slightly worse off. Like Beau said in one of his videos, if the punishment is the same for each, but the profit on a full auto gun or rifle is more, which will criminals traffic in? Bans only create a black market, and drive up the black market price.

This will create a market however 17 year old's on tic tock can't go to Wal-Mart and buy a gun for their grad.

Red flag laws are also taking domestic abusers off the market. Yes, criminals will still sell guns and that will need to be the focus of law enforcement but If what happened in BC today is any indication law enforcement has been given their marching orders and it's not busting up raves for having Ecstasy, it's going after the gangs.

If it's happening in BC today, then they could already do it. And the bill doesn't seem to focus on law enforcement, it just ups the maximum sentence from 10 to 14 years, and from what I've heard most offenders don't even get the 10.

It's not a fair thing to eliminate the next generation of Olympic shooters, just because they can never join a gun club, learn to shoot, buy their own gun and earn their way to the National team. That is what the legislation does, the same as when guns became 'restricted' and the people who got grandfathered in have never been able to get a legislated pass to take their firearms to a range, because the governments have never made the permits accessible. Handguns will be the same. Whoever owns them now will get grandfathered, and the next generation will not inherit them.

This doesn't and simply can't interject the production of zip guns or 3D printed firearms. All this does is have the laws catch up to the current industry standard of firearms production.

The focus here is on mass shootings. 5 round mags, outlawing hand guns for new users and a buyback program are aimed at that goal. Painful, but what else could have been done?

I don't see why anyone really needs a handgun, so I don't see the big deal.

Handguns, like assault rifles, were invented for one reason only - to kill people. Things like target shooting came long afterwards and are only a justification for people to claim why they need one.

The only real firearms a civilian may need are shotguns and hunting rifles - if those get banned, then I'd have something to say.

This doesn't touch shotguns at all and a 5 round mag on something like the Steyr scout isn't impacting the weapons effectiveness.

This just stops the morons doing driveby's with uzi's and AR-15's.

I have no handguns, or ARs. I am just against government overreach into ineffective areas, and confiscation from law abiding citizens. Even if it's virtual confiscation, like the handgun ban. Like Beau said, Domestic Violence is very much at the heart of many multiple shooters. The largest mass casualty event we had so far was with a Rented Van. One guy shot up people dressed like a cop. In Beau's words, in the US; an 18 year old can put a pack of smokes, six beer, and a gun on the cashier counter, and the only thing he is legally allowed to buy is the gun. Perhaps that is a lesson for us too. Raise the restricted permit age to 25 or something. Don't take away things from people obeying the law.

This bill, the Assault Rifle ban, and all the other ineffective measures are aimed at the wrong place. Stopping the reasons why people decide to make headlines is what they should be looking at. Why is politics so divided that some people are willing to shoot the place up in frustration?

There was a bust recently where one weapon confiscated was a home built MAC-10 with a supressor. Not even an import, built right here from local materials in someone's garage.

Crimes of passion are not crimes that are a slow boil. We can't legislate against a determined malcontents but we can raise the bar so that the people who are a threat to themselves and others in the moment don't have the option to just pick up a gun and make life changes to temporary problems.

This is where the focus needs to be as the IS a problem not just in the US but here as well as their gun culture has spilled over. We can't legislate the problem away but we can make changes that will keep the lunatics in check.

Much like a guard rail on a staircase keeps you from falling, it's never going to stop you from being pushed from someone determined to do so but for an accident or a simple mistake it will save you. That's what these restrictions are for.

Your right but how do we get the government to really look at the problems. Taking away the legal guns isn�t going to stop the slow burning nut jobs from doing something big if they are determined. It�s all well and good to say we should invest more into mental health, we really should. But as the saying goes you can lead a horse to water you can�t make it drink. Mental health is only now being talked about and being treated. It�s not the big dark secret it has been but there�s people who see it as a weakness. Personally I would like domestic violence to be reported more and automatically end any hope of buying a gun legally. Then they will have to figure out the black market and homemade ones. Which is a bigger problem in my mind.
