Jordan Eberle scored two goals and the shootout winner to end another classic showdown as Canada edged Russia 6-5 in their semifinal game at the World Junior Hockey Championship
It was a classic, one of the best I've ever seen. The whole game was a titanic struggle between two evenly-matched teams, hardly a let-up in the action, and had everything--hard hitting, nifty skills, hard hitting, last second heroics, hard hitting, and best of all, we won. Oh yeah, and hard hitting. The only down side was that it was decided with the idiotic, anti-climatic shootout. But since we won, I guess that's okay.
Bob McKenzie's observation afterwards was on the money. It was a reversal of tradition. The Russians came out hitting, but in the end, Canada won it with skill. I believe that Hell is open for public skating now.

I've never understood that one, you know. Why do Canadians seem to believe the Russians traditionally beat us? Go through the history of Canada vs Russia series when their best met our best. I bet you'll find the facts don't support the theory there. I think Canadians have some sort of inferiority complex, or something, on that, and it isn't justified by the facts.

He meant that the styles of play were reversed, not the winners.

This must've been one intense game to watch.
That it was. It had me on the edge of my seat for a large portion of the game. An excellent game it was!

and yes, deciding a game by shootout is a terrible way to do it,
and should be scrapped.. let the boys play.
