Did they actually do any examination of the political situation here before they wrote this? If we had an election today we'd end up with a Tory majority. Iggy has the same credibility as Dion had.
Ignatieff, who answered their question in the affirmative, is now not only a Toronto MP but the leader of the Liberal Party and thus the man most likely to be Canada's next prime minister. (The current Conservative administration is on its knees and there could be an election at any time.)
I just wanted to pick on this for a second, with a reminder that the conversation
about patriotism/nationalism between the Balkans and Canada are 2
different ideas.
Patriotism in Canada usually revolves around maple syrup,
hockey fights and making sure Canadians remain good and decent people.
Nationalism in the Balkans usually involves killing, pillaging, raping
and destroying anything connected with the other tribe.
The writer is doing a rather big disservice to the readers here.
It's protocol for the President of the US to meet with the Leader of the Opposition when he visits Ottawa. But you will recall that Obama was too busy to meet Ignatieff in his office. It was in an airplane hanger at the airport.

I think your the one who's kidding himself. The Conservatives were very nearly toppled just a week ago (which took cutting a deal with those awful socialists and separatists BTW).
They have lived to fight another day, but who knows if that will be the case tomorrow, next week or even next month? Harper's government now is on the same level as Martin's was after he made the budget deal with the NDP...on life support.

We are doing some research in anticipation of a possible federal election this fall.
The reason I am contacting community organizations is to find people with real life issues and stories that may be directly affected by whatever changes occur after a federal election.
To give you an example: if you know of someone in your neighbourhood or community who is struggling to find work, who is living off employment insurance or someone who didn�t qualify under the existing rules. Maybe you have a friend or relative who is dealing with legal issues and wanting or needing something to change under federal law. Perhaps you know of someone who is trying to bring family members into Canada from their home country and having trouble making their way through the refugee and immigration system. Or maybe you know of someone who is hoping to make a new life here but is running into obstacles such as having credentials recognized by Canadian institutions.
There are often stories like these that happen in our very own neighbourhoods.
We are interested in hearing these stories � maybe it�s even something that you yourself are dealing with, living through right now�
If so, please reply to this email and tell me about it.
We are striving to make election coverage about more than polls and percentages.
Community-minded people like you can help us do that.

I don't see where the Tories have anything to fear from an election. Their polls are up, Ignatieff is an ineffectual campaigner and Coderregate had made him look like a ditherer. The Dips have dipped in the polls. The Bloc may however be breathing a sigh of relief now that Iggy has shown himself to be no more harmful to them than Dion.
Watched Question Period this afternoon. Usually Layton is arrogant when asking question of the government. Today he was quite deferential. He recognizes that preventing an election is probably saving his bacon.
