We can't it's too expensive the fuel cells for the starships are at least 15 years away only socialists want to colonize space it's not in the 10 commandments there is no space, it was all a Hollywood backlot they haven't lowered the grades to C minus to make astronaut school, it's not fair white men aren't allowed to be space travellers anymore we need the money for more bombs it should be privatized first so I don't have to pay for it I ran out of things to whine about
You forgot that human life cannot exist without wind, fresh air, pressure of exactly one atmosphere that can only be generated entirely by atmosphere, gravity of exactly one G, the weather out side can never be fatal as wearing any protective clothing is impossible... in fact any environment that isn't a beach in the Bahamas is purely unlivable by humans.
Had a class room in New Mexico, pull that argument.
I've been to the future all the men look like Hawkings whats even worse is that so do the women.
As for traveling to the future how do we know ppl don't do it all the time seeing as how traveling to the past is not possible. Once someone gets to the future they couldn't come back so we would never know what the future holds thus the balance of the universe stays in place.

Humanity shouldn't be allowed into space at all, or at least not at our current level of moral development. What's the point at all in searching for and colonizing new living worlds if it's inevitable that we'll end up turning them into the same open reeking sewer that we've turned the Earth into? I really hope that the aliens are a lot smarter, are much better armed than we are because, and totally unwilling to take any shit from humans. If not letting humans loose in the galaxy will be about as bad for everyone else out there as the Black Death was in the 1300's.

It's all just versions of the objections to every other great endeavour of man:
Can't cross the Atlantic Ocean because the world is flat. If men were meant to fly they'd have wings. We should not be going to the moon when we still can't cure the common cold. The sound barrier will never be broken. The automobile is a passing fancy of the rich and it will never catch on. Big deal that the Russians have a satellite, what use is a satellite anyway? Electricity is simply too dangerous to have in people's homes.
Moralists usually earn all of the ridicule they receive. That's because most of the people who go on about morality the loudest are usually proven before too long to have none of their own at all, e.g. Ted Haggard, Newt Gingrich, the entire Vatican establishment, etc..
All I'm saying is that it would be the ultimate crime for us to find other living worlds and turn them into ecological disasters like the Gulf Of Mexico or the Aral Sea. Or find other sentient beings at a lower stage of material development than we are just to end up with the worst and greediest among us exploiting and enslaving them in the identical manner that we still enjoy doing to our own. I do not think that there is anything that is specifically so great and wonderful about the human race that we're somehow entitled us to run roughshod over the entire galaxy.

I agree, however I also think we should give it a shot.
Even if we really are monstrous bogeymen that devour the children of other sapient races as we brutalize, enslave and genocide our way across the galaxy.
Not so much because it would be wonderful but that it would be what we was.

Humanity shouldn't be allowed into space at all, or at least not at our current level of moral development.
It is impossible to achieve moral development when people who speak of morality are publicly ridiculed.
Sometimes by the very same people who bemoan the lack of morality in society.
